This bill relates to background checks for acquiring pistols or revolvers. Current law provides that an unlicensed person acquiring a pistol or revolver from a federally licensed firearms dealer is required to have a valid permit to acquire or a valid permit to carry weapons issued under the provisions of Code chapter 724 or the person must complete a satisfactory national instant criminal background check pursuant to 18 U.S.C. §922(t). The bill provides that in order for any person to acquire a pistol or revolver from any other person, and in order to provide proof of a background check and notify that the purchaser is of legal age, a person is required to have a valid permit to acquire or a valid permit to carry weapons issued under the provisions of Code chapter 724 or the person must complete a satisfactory national instant criminal background check pursuant to 18 U.S.C. §922(t).
